Communication to Families, Return to 4-Day In Person Hybrid Learning

Dear McCormick School Families,

We are excited to announce the opportunity for identified students to attend school for in-person learning 4 days per week.  Through consultation with health experts and while continuing to implement CDC recommended mitigation strategies to the greatest extent possible, this opportunity will be available to the following groups of students beginning on the identified dates:

  • Beginning May 10, 2021, the following student groups will have the choice between in-person learning 4 days per week with virtual learning on Wednesday, or 5 days of virtual learning:
  • All elementary school students Preschool – Grade 5.
  • All students in our Public Separate Day Schools.
    • Students receiving special education services primarily outside of general education (cluster and regional programs including FALS, CALS, SEL, Hearing Impaired, Visually Impaired) in Grades 6 – 12.
  • Beginning May 17, 2021, all other secondary students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and/or a 504 Plan in Grades 6 – 12 will have a choice between in-person learning 4 days per week with virtual learning on Wednesday, or 5 days of virtual learning.

Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous days for all students. Wednesdays provide teachers the opportunity to meet with small group of students, provide tutoring, conduct individual student check-ins, plan for instruction, and engage in professional learning.

BCPS has identified May 10 and May 17 as start dates for system planning purposes; however, we have learned that the nature of this pandemic is ever changing and evolving which could impact the scheduled timeline as more updated information is provided.

Thank you,

Ms. Kourtesis

Our community is located in the northeastern section of Baltimore County and includes older, established neighborhoods, as well as relatively new neighborhoods. There are a broad range of housing opportunities, including apartments, townhouses and individual homes.

McCormick Elementary School opened its doors in September, 1971 and we currently provide both regular and special educational services to approximately 475 students in Pre-School through grade 5.

The professional staff is comprised of a principal, assistant principal and thirty-three teachers, including specialists in special education, reading, music, physical education, art, speech, guidance, psychology, and library science.  Three instructional assistants and two parent helpers provide additional instructional support for review, extension and remediation of skills for our students. A full-time, registered nurse and part-time occupational therapist, as well as a part-time physical therapist, are assigned to the school.

McCormick Elementary provides full-day instruction for all kindergarten students. Our two Pre-Kindergarten classes meet five days a week for half-day sessions. Again this year, McCormick will use Title I funding to assist us as we provide a school-wide program that increases the quality and amount of learning time for all children to enable them to achieve challenging academic standards. Special funding from Baltimore County allows us to provide increased instructional materials, additional teaching support, after-school and summer school programs for our students. Our students with special needs receive their instruction within the regular classroom setting with assistance from members of our Child Advocate Support Team (CAST).

The Rosedale Recreation Council offers a variety of programs for community members.  Please visit their website for more information.
