COMMUNITY

Our community is located in the northeastern section of Baltimore County and includes older, established neighborhoods, as well as relatively new neighborhoods. There are a broad range of housing opportunities, including apartments, townhouses and individual homes.

SCHOOL

McCormick Elementary School opened its doors in September, 1971 and we currently provide both regular and special educational services to approximately 475 students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5.

STAFF

The professional staff is comprised of a principal, assistant principal and thirty-three teachers, including specialists in special education, reading, music, physical education, art, speech, guidance, psychology, crisis intervention, computer lab, and library science. This school year, we are welcoming one new and one experienced teacher to our staff. This new personnel will complement our predominately veteran staff. Three instructional assistants and a large number of parent helpers provide additional instructional support for review, extension and remediation of skills for our students. A full-time, registered nurse and part-time OT are assigned to the school. The McCormick PTA is very supportive of the school’s educational programs and activities and is committed to providing information to parents.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

McCormick Elementary provides full-day instruction for all kindergarten students. Our two Pre-Kindergarten classes meet five days a week for half-day sessions. Again this year, McCormick will use Title I funding to assist us as we provide a school-wide program that increases the quality and amount of learning time for all children to enable them to achieve challenging academic standards. Special funding from Baltimore County allows us to provide increased instructional materials, additional teaching support, after-school and summer school programs for our students. Our students with special needs receive their instruction within the regular classroom setting with assistance from members of our Child Advocate Support Team (CAST). Child care is available before and after school through Open Door, Inc.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The Rosedale Recreation Council offers a wide variety of programs for community members ranging in age from three to adult. Programs for preschool youngsters, as well as senior citizens, are offered during school hours. Sports, scouting and aerobic sessions are well attended after school.
